MOZZ
BIOGRAPHY
Mozz
first found his true love for fast paced music
back in 1996 and knew from then he wanted to
be a hardcore DJ. A friend’s brothers’ Slipmatt
tape was stumbled upon whilst waiting in his
mom’s car! Armed with a bit of cash off his
Mum and a love for anything kickdrum related,
he bought some decks and immediately knew what
had to be done. Over
the years Mozz practiced mixing and eventually,
in 2000, he found himself playing at a local
night alongside long time friend and fellow
Stafford boy Oli G. Throughout
2001 and 2002 Mozz continued to buy all the
records he could afford but he knew the ultimate
high would be to produce his own beats.
In 2002,
Mozz made his first track ‘Drift’ with Speedy
B using engineering help from Devastate. ‘Drift’
was a massive success, getting plays from his
hero DJ Sy and was also featured on Sy’s mix
on Hardcore Heaven Vol 2 amongst others. Propelled
by this personal landmark, Mozz set about learning
all he could about music production, taking
tips and lessons from Oli, Devastate and Telford
homeboys Dan Rolla and Gavin G. Mozz pumped
out tune after tune covering UK hardcore, the
tougher bouncy sound and breakbeat hardcore
amongst others. Releases in 2003 & 2004
included the massive ‘Halcyon’ on Uprising Recs
(which got plays at Uproar and Uprising), the
‘Drift’ remixes on Camel Ltd and the insane
gabber track ‘Shooting Filth’ on Camel.
As the music got more exposure, the bookings
came rolling in for Mozz. A massive gig in the
main room for Uproar at the Sanctuary, Milton
Keynes was a dream come true. For a lad that
grew up listening to tapes from events that
took place at the Sanctuary, this was a major
event in Mozz’s life. Other gigs followed around
the country including HTID, Vibealite and many
more. In 2005 in the crammed upstairs room at
HTID, Mozz shook the room so hard (finishing
with Speedcore!) that the room had to be closed
as the floor was caving in! Now that’s hardcore!
More releases and bookings followed in 2005
and 2006, with releases on Warped Science, Raver’s
Choice, F.A.S.T. and cheeky bootleg label Ballistic
Bootlegs. Album appearances included ‘Hardcore
Heaven The Album’, ‘Hardcore Re-United’ and
‘Essential Hardcore’. Also in 2006 Mozz co-mixed
a disc for ‘Hardcore Underground’ alongside
Darwin, Stormtrooper and more. This album was
sold in HMV and other major stores throughout
the UK.
Fast forward to 2008 and Mozz has got even more
under his belt. He’s producing UK hardcore,
breaks, house, trance and gabber. With immense
support from Hixxy he has played several times
for HTID and will be flying out to play for
HTID In The Sun in Spain in 2009. In December
2008 he DJ’d in Los Angeles, USA. Mozz goes
international baby!
So what the does the future hold for Mozz? More
releases, more bookings and more album releases
are a guarantee whilst mixing in his pants whilst
pissed out his face is a definite. 2009 is going
to be a good year.
